Blog change
Wow. I haven't written anything in forever. But I've moved. I am now posting messages, along with Rose, Drew and Antar over at Failure Comics and I hope to see you there and on our message boards. Thanks! | | Wednesday, April 28th, 2004 | | 8:00 am |
new stuff
Ok, I put up 3 new panels in my ongoing webcomic here. I had some more panels drawn, but there was a lot of computer retouching to be done so I wussed out and didn't get those done. Another day, perhaps. This Friday the bluelucy guys are having a show at Integrity Organic Restaurant located here 243 CENTRAL AVE in ST PETE FL. It's from 7 -12 and I'll be there. Yesterday, a friend from work went to a store and when he got his change back, instead of a quarter they gave him an Iraqui coin. It said Quatar on it and was weird, but shaped like a Susan B. Anthony coin. Man, how did that show up there.. | | Wednesday, April 14th, 2004 | | 7:46 am |
Navel and Covivant
I just put up a new page of From the navel to the grave Friday night, Karen and I went to Covivant gallery to check out a show called "From New York with Love". It was a fun night, Chad and Phillip of BlueLucy fame were there hanging out, my friend Mel was working the door and the show itself was provocative and full of love and lust. And some surprising comics type pieces. Check it out if you're in the Tampa area. | | Tuesday, April 6th, 2004 | | 6:01 pm |

Blue Lucy and Udipi
Saturday when I was at the Emerald I met these 2 artists, Chad Mize and Phillip Clark, who do these really cool and funny pop art type paintings. Together Chad and Phillip are Blue Lucy, "a dynamic art and design duo" and make sure to view their awesome flash animations. They will warm your heart. Saturday night, Karen and I and her parents, went to Udipi, which is this vegetarian South Indian restaurant in Tampa. We had Dosai's, these really thin and huge pancake type bread rolled around a mixture of various goodies. Mine had a potato onion mix, while Karen's had a jalapeno mixture that I was afraid of. We also had Aloo Gobi, a potato and cauliflower curry, along with the requisite Mango Chutney's and cucumber Raita dipping sauces. yummy, yummy for the tummy. Also I saw Hellboy which was great, really funny and fun, but a tad long.. | | Saturday, April 3rd, 2004 | | 5:06 pm |
Paintings at the Emerald Bar in St. Pete
So today I went to the Emerald Bar in St. Pete. I'm part of this show called Hot Freaks 4 that will be up for a couple of months. It's a pretty cool vibe and the show, organized by a great young painter named Anna Sauer, looks really good. It was cool because I got there later on and a lot of stuff was already on the wall. I took a couple sketches this time. One I really worked over (painted on, glued onto a silkscreen so a little of the ink could show through and more, it was fun) and am really happy with and everyone likes it. Unfortunately, I forgot to scan it. The other one I did scan, which I did in October, which is fairly simple, but I like it, it's called mystery creature 2 . Now, the paintings I had up there didn't sell, but that's ok. the sketches I'm pricing really low. like $15 and $25. This is one of the paintings I had in the last Hot Freaks show and is called Pet Park and I really like it. Karen likes it too so we hung it on our wall (sage green dining room well, the pink in the painting makes it pop.) Also, I just put this commission painting I did for my friend Jennifer on my site. It's 2 by 3 feet and I finished it in January Girl with Dog.I'm pleased with it. | | Thursday, April 1st, 2004 | | 3:53 pm |
inking and Morrissey
So I was working on the 3rd page of my comic last night. Sometimes I forget how good it feels to draw comics. It's like you start with blank paper and you sweat and bleed over it and then a few hours later (hopefully) you're all like damn, this page is starting to come together. I've got something to show for the day. Even if it's half pencilled and some panels are still struggling. I've started inking with brushes again. Last night, I found a good one in my stash. It's a Winsor Newton synthetic called Cottman. It was a size 2 or 3. It worked well. Then I went to Pearl today and they had the same Cottman brushes at half off. Score! So I picked up a few. A size 1 and a 2. Now, I need to learn how to ink a straight line with a brush and a ruler...but I never really make straight lines... I'm pretty excited about all the news over here Morrissey-Solo Morrissey playing Lollapalooza. I hope it comes to Tampa. I've seen him 4 times already, but once more would be nice.. | | Wednesday, March 31st, 2004 | | 4:17 pm |

From the navel to the grave
I've started a weekly webcomic. From the navel to the grave I'm going to update it every week on Wednesday with a new page. It will be a variety of different stories about my life. Or whatever else sort of crap I want to draw comics about, I suppose, but usually my life. My friend Dean came up with the title. I had written a bunch of titles and one of them was "From the navel" for navel gazing I guess, and so Dean filled in the rest. I'm inking the whole thing with a brush to try to give it some more fluidity, but I think I need new brushes..or maybe I just suck..:)No, I know it's all good, in a way, even if it's bad.. | | Tuesday, March 30th, 2004 | | 6:18 pm |
First entry and megacon
Hi, so it's my first journal entry and I thought I would talk about MegaCon a bit. I think I started this journal because my friend Josh Sullivan, (Josh had a table in artists alley and seemed constantly surrounded by people so that was cool to see.) has been promising to write his megacon report and he hasn't so I thought I would write my own. Here are my pictures from the show megacon pics . I was in the
Independent publishing area with the Failure artists. So there was me, Drew, Jerry, Antar and Rose. Visit the site and message board at failurecomics.com. Jerry had made a pretty cool backdrop of red canvases wallpapered with pages from the Failure anthology. It was awesome to see all of our work spread out on the table. While there was a hell of a lot of anime and stuff, there was still enough comcics to warrant my interest. It was great to see all my Failure friends from Georgia (and Orlando) and get to hang out and talk. Saturday, we were doing sketches for a dollar and I must have made like 20 bucks so it was very cool. Although, very exhausting. It seems like I drew nonstop for 3 hours. It was charming because we did lots of drawings for little kids. It was unbelievably packed with kids and all sorts of people in crazy costumes. My friend Dean Plantamura, of the 501st stormtrooper legion, gave a talk on prop building which was fun to watch. There were other smallpress comics people there from Tampa and Orlando and it was fun to talk to them. There was Joel Carrolland Ed, Herc, Nathan and Stephen who do a charming comic called Same old Story, local Clearwater boy Michael Goodman who does a comic called The Ciderview Project . So it was cool to see a lot of friends. and thank god there are other cartoonists to talk to or these conventions would be way too depressing. The small press is a tough sell on a consumer who is looking for the latest Star Trek toy. Although, we made our table back in sales which is cool and always surprieses me. And that didn't count the sketch money. The convention really isn't our audience, but it's fun to see everybody and meet new people. Also, local up and coming 13 year old cartoonist Matt Rhodes was there and it was cool to see him. He brought some of his originals. I sent him over to see Chris Staros at Top Shelf who was encouraging. I spent some time talking to Chris and got the new Alan Moore novel and a Pete Sickman-Garner collection, which was hilarious. Also, at the top shelf table was Andy Renton who does a great mini called Owly. We got a print from him of his Owly character, who is a vegetarian owl, of course, whose best friend is a worm. Charming stuff. Well, I'm out for now. Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Failure table at the Megacon. Current Music: The Streets |
